in the mind’s core, a waterfall—(a strange thing,
a thing ill-designed to assuage fear— 
(symbols have an inner life that defies translation; they cannot dissolve
into words—  
the water roars, cloaking what cannot be spoken; here I stop, here I can
traverse
no further—here the silence freezes me.  
Here I must wait—
