On “Smoldered Mind”:

”The idea behind this image was quite funny. This self portrait is basically a visualization of what I feel like during college application season where I have to write over 50 essays for 23 schools within two months.”

On “Arctic Berceuse”:

The idea behind this was to visualize the innocence of sea and nature, and to also bring attention to the endangered species of marine animals.”

On “Evening Breaths”:

My best friend, Margaryta Tumashyk, modeled for the picture. The image was captured on the day I reunited with my best friend after she moved away for a year. We had absolutely no idea for the concept of the photo and decided to just sprint freely with a 5$ curtain I bought off of Amazon. The camera timer and continuous mode was on, and we managed to capture a picture of the breeze summoning my friend through the fabrics.”

Fiona Hsu was born in 2001. At the age of five, her artistic journey ignited when her mother encourages her to make paper dolls instead of buying cheap plastic toys. As she became better with her hands, her paper friends inspired her to keep creating. And so a passion for art ignited. She started drawing and painting on her own ever since, and during her recovery from a foot tendon surgery back in 2015, she developed blazing passion for fine art photography at the age of fourteen.

Her works capture the aspects of beauty within woeful and melancholic definitions, narrating a haunted yet quaint story. Fiona’s photographs are inspired by her dreams at night, her childhood imaginations, and her complex forms of emotions she discovered within herself.
